Essie Fall 2014 Dress To Kilt Collection (Swatches and Review)
11:07 PMAs rainy days fight off the summer heat, the words "It's cold outside!" can already be heard from us warm-blooded Southerners. (Yes, lows in the 70s-60s is kind of cold to us when we're used to temps near 100.) Weather like this has been pushing clients (and me) away from bright, summery pink and orange nail polish and reaching instead for deep reds, blues, and purples. The Essie Fall 2014 collection is here to help everyone get ready for the colder days and longer nights. Keep reading for swatches and descriptions of each polish in this collection!
Photos of each polish were taken indoors. The photo on the left was taken without flash and photo on right was taken with flash. I used two coats of each polish with no topcoat because I wanted to show the original finish of each color (all of them are shiny cremes).
Dress To Kilt: This shade is such a gorgeous true red that will flatter most skin tones.
Take It Outside: A light grey beige that contrasts nicely against skin instead of making it look lifeless and dead like some light grays can do.
The Perfect Cover Up: This dark, smokey teal is a great fall color and would look really nice when accented with a sparkly gold.
Fall In Line: This color is a gray-toned camouflage green and has a glossy finish (I didn't use any topcoat in the pictures).
Style Cartel is such a nice and rich dark sapphire blue. But be forewarned that it's very pigmented and can get messy when taking it off.
Partner In Crime is a deep, dark chocolate brown. I don't usually like browns but this is definitely one that I would wear!
The formula of most colors in this collection is thicker and applies more evenly than what I usually expect from Essie polishes. I find that Essie polishes typically chip faster and apply unevenly because of the runny, thin formula. So this collection was a pleasant surprise in terms of formula and color selection! Others may think it's boring but I think each color is very wearable and flattering on a variety of skin tones. I can't decide which color is my favorite but it's definitely between Style Cartel and The Perfect Cover Up. What's your favorite color in this collection? Leave a comment below letting me know what your thoughts are.
