Review: Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation

My New Summer Foundation

I've been on the lookout for this product ever since watching Saaammage's Youtube video. It took a couple trips to the drugstore before finally finding it at CVS a couple weeks ago and now I'm finally writing this review after thoroughly testing it out.

First off, this foundation comes in a glass bottle and contains 20 ml (0.67 fl. oz.) of product. It also has a plastic teardrop-shaped applicator but not an actual dropper (which would've been really nice to have and super useful). The shape is supposed to help drop foundation onto your fingers or hand which would be the hygienic way to apply foundation, but I don't have the time (or patience) for that.

The formula is very comparable to L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder and I've seen other reviews comparing it to the Armani Maestro Foundation. This makes sense since all three brands are part of the L'Oreal Group. I think Maybelline's Dream Wonder is a better summer foundation because it has a slightly dewy finish and feels more natural than the L'Oreal Magic Nude which has a matte/powdery finish.

I think this is best applied by using your fingers because it seems to go on more smoothly than using a brush. I use the applicator to dot the foundation on my face and then I use my fingers to blend it in. It has the texture of a oil/serum and once it sets, it has the silky feel of a silicon based primer. This foundation has light, buildable coverage and feels really natural on my skin especially during this hot summer. I have oily skin and work long days so I always use a primer and setting spray which seems to help it last longer. But it's definitely not one to reach for if you want good coverage and staying power.

As far as color goes, I originally got the shade 60 but it was way too light for me so I returned it and got shade 80 Medium Buff which is perfect. Shade 80 will work for a those who have a medium tan complexion with a warm yellow undertone (shade 60 will probably work well for me in the dead of winter when my summer tan has worn all the way off). This foundation contains sunscreen in SPF 20 and gives a tiny bit of whitecast in flash photography. So far, this foundation comes in 12 shades (according to Ulta) but I heard that Maybelline might come out with more shades if it becomes part of the permanent line.

  1. I'm always looking for a good foundation but according how you feel about it I think it's not the best option for my really oily skin. But the applicator is tickling my curiosity I've never seen anything like it. :)

    1. I used to have really oily skin but I started treated it like dry skin (moisturizing with face oils and intense moisturizers at night) and drinking plenty of water and now my skin is more combination to normal. I think this foundation has a natural skin finish (if that makes sense) and maybe you could try it with a mattifying primer or setting spray. And yes, the applicator is quite interesting!

  2. The bottle/applicator is intriguing but I also think this may not be a good option for oily skinned individuals. An actual dropper would have been super cool though, I agree.

    1. I sometimes have oily skin (and used to have really oily skin) but this foundation works well for me when I use a primer. It just has more of a natural "I just moisturized my face" look to it instead of a matte finish. I find that skin care can make a huge difference with oily skin because sometimes oily skin is just dehydrated skin that overcompensates with oil production because it thinks the skin needs more moisture.

  3. I guess it's better as a summer makeup than winter since you get less coverage

    1. I guess it's personal preference but yes, I like a lighter coverage foundation for summer since it's so hot and humid where I live. It wears off more naturally than a heavier foundation (I wouldn't want to look like my face is melting off in the heat lol). But it still lasts really well for me when I'm inside all day.
